So I haven't done a post in a while and was wondering what my new post would be about and I decided to speak on something personal.
This post is about priorities and my view on them. So a little over a year ago I was laid -off (damn economy) I had been working at that job for over a year and one day after work I get a call saying that there pretty much was no need to show up for work the following day. I was crushed and tried to stay optimistic and be strong in my faith in God that he had and has my back. That following day I applied for unemployment and was approved. (THANK GOD!!) I learned how to truly budget my money with a 50% income decrease "pay a portion of rent with the first check of the month as well as BGE and phone bill. Second check pay the remaining balance of rent" leaving pretty much nothing for the market or any extras, but hey there's a roof over my head!
So I continued along that path and decided to take this stint as a blessing and focus on my art and perfecting my craft while still looking for work. I few "good" opportunities came about, but nothing concrete. Waiting list and employee pools became my new home,so I pressed on and worked even harder on my craft and even harder to find employment, still to no avail.
This continued for several months and then federal government enforces Emergency unemployment compensation(EUC),which allowed for a series of extension on unemployment benefits. Needless to say I praised God for that (I mean I do have bills to pay)
Let's fast forward to present day. My fiance and I go on vacation every year,we plan the trip a year in advance, well we book our lodging a year in advance and when it gets closer to our vacation we purchase tickets. Well this year given the circumstances we decide to take a more inexpensive route and instead of flying we would take the train, GREAT IDEA RIGHT?? In essence it was great idea and seemed that it would work out,but now I find myself at a crossroads. I was taught that bills come first and the rest is icing on the cake,if you can't afford anything extra so be it your bills are paid. I've always adhered to that so much so that at this point a savings account is a thing of the past,my bills are top priority. Now I'm at the end of my EUC rope,as it stands today there are no more extensions and I have one more check coming to me and it's vacation time! So here's where those good ol' priorities come in, I have enough money after paying other bills and purchasing items needed for our home to purchase (a) my train ticket or (b) pay an outstanding balance for another bill, a bill that is somewhat preventing us from getting off of the floor and into a bed.
WHAT DO I DO?! Well that's yet to be determined. We meaning my fiance,my mother and myself were just speaking on how people try to live above their means, how they manage to find the money to travel, but the rent is late. This issue won't effect my rent, but you get the point. Sometimes in our lives we have to sit down and have a true heart to heart with ourselves and determine what is important and what matters and how one decision could change so much. So today I sit down with my self and ask " Are your priorities in order?"
